Steve Houser is the Owner and president of Arborilogical Services, Inc. As an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist, Steve has been providing care for trees for almost 40 years. Additionally, he has received notable recognition for his work to increase the level of professionalism in the tree care industry.
Two of Steve’s lifetime priorities have been education and volunteerism. He has excelled in both. He attended Mountain View College, earning an Associate in Applied Arts Degree. He is a Licensed Aviation Mechanic with the Federal Aviation Administration, scoring a perfect 100% on the licensing exam.
Steve was one of the first arborists in Texas to be certified by the Texas Chapter of the ISA. He is a Founding Member of the Texas Tree Trails, a volunteer-based program to find, measure, photograph, and recognize all of the significant trees in or near the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The trees are showcased via “virtual tours” on the Texas Tree Trail website. He created the cooperative structure among the Texas Forest Service, Trinity Blacklands Urban Forestry Council, and the Texas Historic Tree Coalition which made the Texas Tree Trails project possible.
Steve has received the “Preservation Project Award” from the National Arbor Day Foundation and he has been recognized by the Dallas Park and Recreation Board for his contributions to “TREEnewal of Dealey Plaza” and for his year of participation in the restoration of historic Reverchon Park. In 2000, he was recognized by the Texas Urban Forestry Council and the Texas Forest Service as the “Outstanding Texas Community Volunteer”. The Texas Chapter of ISA presented Steve with “The Steve Houser Award of Excellence”, also known as the “Houser Cup” which is annually awarded to the winner of the State’s Tree Climbing Competition Champion. The Texas Urban Forestry Council and Texas Forest Service named him “Outstanding Professional of the Year” for 2001.
He is a Certified Master Gardener and Certified Master Naturalist and as an active member of both the Texas Master Gardeners and the Texas Master Naturalist organizations, he annually contributes hundreds of service volunteer hours to worthy community projects.
Most recently, the Texas Master Gardner Association along with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension announced Mr. Steve Houser as the 2020 Master Gardener of the Year at the 2021 annual conference’s Search for Excellence award program. Nominated by the Dallas County Master Gardener Association for his unwavering commitment to making things better for trees and the environment. The Master Gardeners credited Steve’s advocacy for trees as being unequalled, stating he is an indispensable educator for Master Gardeners and a trusted advisor of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.
