Steve Houser is the owner and president of Arborilogical Services, Inc. He is semi-retired but continues to oversee the management of the company.

Steve was one of the first arborists in Texas to be certified by the International Society of Arboriculture in 1992.

He worked to gain an education at Mountain View College, earning an associate in applied arts degree in 1980. He is a Licensed Aviation Mechanic with the Federal Aviation Administration, scoring a perfect 100% on one of the two licensing exams.

Two of Steve’s lifetime priorities are education and volunteerism. He has excelled in both. The essence of his mission is found in one of Dr. Seuss’ most beloved heroes, the Lorax, who says, “I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees.” Steve’s lifelong devotion to trees and his commitment to educate the public has been fulfilled by a 45-year career as one of the Dallas area’s most accomplished arborists. He is the only volunteer in Texas to receive two United States Presidential Lifetime Achievement awards (2008, 2018) and has recorded over 25,000 hours of volunteer time.

The Dallas Morning News captured his profound impact by stating, “He may be the best friend a threatened tree ever had.”

He is a highly respected liaison and advisor to governmental agencies, developers/builders and eco-conscious organizations on trees, urban forestry and environmental stewardship throughout local counties, the state of Texas and beyond.

As a previous public speaker for 30 years, Steve’s passion to teach others about the importance of trees was truly infectious and without bounds. His charismatic style and boundless enthusiasm for trees engaged and inspired his audience.

Dr. David Appel, Professor of Plant Pathology with Texas A&M University, observed, “Steve has the unique ability to understand the science we study in the lab and apply it in the field. I always learn something new every time I talk to him.” Steve also advises A&M horticulture agents in various counties in Texas when they ask for help or update their curriculum about trees.

As a trustee with the state historic tree coalition, one of his greatest passions is the study of Comanche Marker Trees in Texas. In Steve’s words, "We have a moral obligation to document historic trees and their legacies for future generations to enjoy...before they are gone forever.”

Additionally, he has received notable recognition for his work to increase the level of knowledge and professionalism in the tree care industry.

Other recognitions include:

The event featured Mayor Laura Millers "Tree Climbing Challenge," which included other mayors from around the area competing against each other in tree climbing, tree planting and breaking a tree-shaped piñata.
